London Underground Strikes Announced for September

The RMT union has called a week of walkouts across the Tube and Docklands Light Railway from Friday 5 to Thursday 11 September, warning of major disruption to almost every Underground line (but not the Elizabeth line or Overground).

The strikes, staggered across different groups of staff each day, are in protest over pay, fatigue, shift patterns, and working hours.

Key dates:

  • Fri 5 Sept (6pm–6pm Sat): Ruislip depot staff walkout

  • Sun 7 Sept: Track Access, Control Centre, Power/ERU

  • Mon 8 & Wed 10 Sept: Fleet, Engineering, Stations, Trains

  • Tue 9 & Thu 11 Sept: Signallers, Service Control, ERU

  • 7–11 Sept: Docklands Light Railway strike (all week)

TfL has offered a 3.4% pay rise but says reducing the 35-hour week is “not practical or affordable.”

The strikes are likely to hit major events, including Coldplay’s Wembley shows (7–8 Sept).
