LNER’s ‘Simpler Fares’ pilot is growing — 27 more stations are joining in.

The scheme, launched in Jan 2024 to make train tickets easier to understand, replaces Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak with three clear options:

  • Fixed – cheapest, for one specific train.

  • Semi-Flexible (70min Flex) – travel as booked, or up to 70 mins earlier/later.

  • Fully Flexible – travel anytime.

After first running between London King’s Cross and Newcastle/Edinburgh, it expanded last year to more northern stations. Now, from 7 Sept 2025, it’ll also cover stations between London King’s Cross and Stevenage — with help from GTR and TfL to make connections smoother.

Tickets for the new phase go on sale 10 Aug 2025. Other routes not in the pilot stay the same.
