9 Places to Go on a Date in London This Autumn
Autumn might be one of the best seasons for a date in London.
The leaves start turning, the parks become quieter, the air gets cooler and suddenly a walk through the city feels a little more romantic. You can grab a coffee, wander through a park, find somewhere cosy for dinner afterwards and, if you're lucky, catch one of those crisp autumn evenings that makes London look completely different.
The good thing is that you don't have to spend a fortune either.
Some of London's best autumn dates are simply about finding somewhere beautiful to walk, somewhere interesting to explore and giving yourselves enough time to enjoy the day without rushing from one booking to another.
So, if you're planning a date this autumn, here are 9 places in London that are particularly worth considering.
1. Richmond Park & Isabella Plantation
For a proper autumn date surrounded by colour, Richmond Park is difficult to beat.
The Royal Parks has actually created dedicated autumn walking routes through Richmond Park and Isabella Plantation, making this one of the rare places where you can follow a seasonal route specifically designed around the changing landscape.
The wider Richmond Park route takes you through woodland, open grassland and historic landscapes, with highlights including King Henry's Mound, Pen Ponds, Sawyer's Hill and Queen's Ride. The full route is around 6.9 miles, although you absolutely don't have to complete all of it for a date.
For something shorter and more intimate, head to Isabella Plantation.
The 40-acre woodland garden is particularly impressive in autumn. The Acer Glade is one of the highlights, with Japanese maples producing brilliant scarlet, orange and gold colours, while Thomson's Lawn and the streams add even more seasonal atmosphere.
You could spend an hour wandering through Isabella Plantation, continue through Richmond Park and then finish with something to eat or drink around Richmond.
It gives you the feeling of a countryside date without actually leaving London.
Best for: couples who want autumn colours, a long walk and plenty of time to talk.
2. Kew Gardens
Kew Gardens is another place that feels particularly special as the seasons change.
The gardens cover a huge area, so you can easily turn a visit into an entire afternoon. Walk through the different gardens, explore the glasshouses, stop for coffee and find quieter corners where you can simply sit together.
Autumn brings its own character to Kew, with changing foliage and seasonal planting making the gardens particularly attractive as the weather cools.
And because Kew's opening hours change as autumn progresses, it's worth checking the date before you go. From 1 to 24 October 2026, Kew is open daily from 10am to 6pm, with last entry at 5pm. From 25 October, the Gardens close earlier.
There is also a particularly good option if you're looking for an evening date.
Halloween at Kew runs from 16 October to 1 November 2026, with the schedule split into two periods. From 16–24 October, the event runs from 6pm to 10pm; from 25 October to 1 November, it runs from 4pm to 10pm. It is a separate, timed-ticketed experience rather than something included with normal daytime admission.
That gives you two very different autumn dates at the same place: a relaxed daytime garden date or a much more atmospheric evening experience.
Best for: a date that can start with gardens and coffee and turn into an evening experience.
3. Greenwich Park
Greenwich Park is a great option if you want autumn scenery and a view.
The park rises towards the Royal Observatory, so your date can begin with a relaxed walk through the trees before heading uphill towards one of London's classic viewpoints.
The Royal Parks specifically highlights Greenwich Park among its autumn destinations, including the Japanese maple trees and the views from One Tree Hill.
But don't rush straight to the viewpoint.
Take your time walking through the park, look around the historic landscape and enjoy the changing trees. Once you reach the higher ground, you'll have views across London that make a pretty good reward.
Afterwards, head down towards Greenwich town centre.
You can browse Greenwich Market, find somewhere for coffee or food, or continue towards the Cutty Sark and the Thames.
That makes Greenwich particularly useful for a date because the park doesn't have to be the whole itinerary. It can simply be the beautiful middle section of a much longer day.
Best for: couples who want autumn scenery, a London skyline and somewhere to continue the date afterwards.
4. Regent's Park & Primrose Hill
Some dates don't need a complicated plan.
A walk through Regent's Park followed by the view from Primrose Hill can be enough.
The Royal Parks includes a dedicated autumn route through Regent's Park and Primrose Hill, taking in the park's gardens, avenues and scenic areas before heading towards the famous viewpoint.
Start with a slow walk rather than heading straight for Primrose Hill.
The park gives you plenty of opportunities to stop and look around, and autumn adds colour to the mature trees and formal gardens.
Then make your way towards Primrose Hill.
On a clear day, the view over London is one of the best parts of the date. You can stand there for a while, take some photographs and then walk down into Primrose Hill or Camden for something to eat.
It's also a good option for a first date because you're not committed to sitting across a restaurant table for two hours if conversation isn't flowing.
You're walking, exploring and naturally moving from one part of the date to another.
Best for: a simple, low-pressure date with a great view.
5. Hampstead Heath
If you want something less polished and a little more natural, Hampstead Heath is the one.
The Heath feels very different from London's formal royal parks. There are woodland paths, open grassland, ponds and wide views across the city.
Autumn makes it particularly appealing because you can spend a couple of hours walking through the changing landscape before heading into Hampstead village.
One of the obvious places to finish is Parliament Hill.
The viewpoint gives you one of London's famous skyline panoramas, and on a clear autumn day it can be particularly impressive.
Then you can continue into Hampstead for coffee, food or a drink.
That combination is what makes Hampstead Heath work so well as a date. You get the outdoors first and then have plenty of options for the more traditional part of the date afterwards.
Best for: couples who prefer long walks, natural surroundings and a relaxed neighbourhood atmosphere.
6. Holland Park
Holland Park is a good choice if you want something quieter without travelling too far from central London.
The park combines woodland, formal gardens and open spaces, giving you plenty of variety during a relatively short walk.
It is also home to the Kyoto Garden, which can be a beautiful stop during an autumn visit. The Japanese-style garden has ponds, bridges, landscaped planting and plenty of peaceful corners.
Rather than making Holland Park the entire date, you could use it as your starting point.
Spend some time walking through the park, then head towards Kensington or Notting Hill for coffee, lunch, dinner or drinks.
This works particularly well if you want your date to have a bit of structure without feeling over-planned.
Best for: a quieter garden date with plenty of restaurants and cafés nearby.
7. Chiswick House & Gardens
For something a little more elegant, head west to Chiswick House & Gardens.
The historic house and surrounding gardens provide a completely different atmosphere from London's huge open parks. You can wander through the grounds, explore the landscaped gardens and enjoy the mature trees as autumn arrives.
And there is a particularly nice seasonal reason to visit in October 2026.
Chiswick House & Gardens hosted an Autumn Colour Walk on 15 October, led through lesser-known areas of the gardens as the landscape begins changing colour. While that particular guided event is before the weekend, it confirms just how strongly the gardens are being presented as an autumn destination this season.
The gardens themselves remain a good autumn date throughout the season.
Afterwards, you can head into Chiswick itself, where you'll find plenty of options for food and drinks.
The result is a date that feels more like a small escape than a standard day in central London.
Best for: a more elegant autumn walk followed by food or drinks in Chiswick.
8. Bushy Park
If Richmond Park is already on your list but you want something a little less obvious, try Bushy Park.
The Royal Parks specifically recommends Woodland Gardens in Bushy Park during autumn, when the trees take on golden colours and the woodland becomes particularly atmospheric.
Bushy Park also gives you plenty of room to wander without feeling like you're following a sightseeing checklist.
Walk through the Woodland Gardens, explore the park's avenues and open spaces, look out for wildlife and simply take your time.
You can then continue towards Hampton Court or Teddington depending on how you want the rest of your date to go.
It's particularly good if both of you enjoy being outdoors and would rather spend your date walking and talking than sitting in one place.
Best for: an autumn escape with woodland, wildlife and fewer touristy vibes.
9. St James's Park
And then there's the option for a much more central date.
St James's Park works beautifully when you want an autumn walk but don't want to spend the entire day travelling across London.
The park sits right in the middle of some of London's most recognisable landmarks, and autumn gives the lake, trees and surrounding gardens a different atmosphere.
You can start around Westminster, walk through the park towards Buckingham Palace and then continue towards Mayfair, Soho or Covent Garden.
That makes St James's Park especially useful for a first date or an evening date where you already have dinner or drinks planned.
The park is the scenic part in between.
And sometimes that's all you need.
Best for: a short autumn date that can easily be combined with dinner, drinks or sightseeing.
Which One Should You Choose?
There isn't really one perfect autumn date in London.
It depends on the kind of day you want.
For the strongest autumn colours, I'd choose Richmond Park and Isabella Plantation.
For something that feels more like an occasion, go for Kew Gardens, especially if you want to turn the date into an evening with Halloween at Kew.
For views of London, Greenwich Park and Primrose Hill are hard to beat.
For a quieter escape, try Hampstead Heath or Bushy Park.
And if you want something central and easy, St James's Park lets you combine a seasonal walk with almost anything else you have planned.
The biggest advantage of dating in London during autumn is that you don't need to make the whole thing complicated.
Find somewhere beautiful. Walk without rushing. Stop for something warm. Talk. And if the date is going well, keep going.
That's often a much better plan than trying to fit ten different activities into one day.
