November might not immediately sound like the most romantic month in London.
The days are shorter, the temperature drops, rain can appear without warning, and summer feels like a distant memory.
But honestly, November has its own kind of charm.
It is the month when London starts changing character. Autumn is still around, the first Christmas lights begin appearing, ice rinks return, theatres become wonderfully cosy, and evenings suddenly feel made for warm drinks, long walks and doing something together.
It is also a great month for dates because you can mix completely different experiences into one day. You could visit a new exhibition in the afternoon, have dinner somewhere cosy and finish the evening beneath candlelight. Or you could go ice skating, walk beside the Thames and find somewhere warm afterwards.
And in November 2026, there are some particularly good options.
From Glide at Battersea Power Station, which opens on 6 November, to Christmas at Kew, Somerset House Skate, the Lord Mayor's Show and a brand-new West End musical, here are 11 of the best November date ideas in London.
1. Go ice skating at Glide at Battersea Power Station
If you want a date that immediately feels like winter has arrived, go ice skating.
Glide at Battersea Power Station opens on Friday 6 November 2026 and runs until 3 January 2027. It is London's riverside ice rink, with three interconnected rinks and a 200-metre skate trail overlooking the Thames and London skyline.
This makes it a particularly good date because the skating doesn't have to be the whole evening.
You can meet at Battersea Power Station, skate for an hour, explore the riverside afterwards and then find somewhere nearby for dinner or drinks.
And if neither of you is particularly good at skating, even better.
Trying to stay upright while pretending you know what you're doing can become part of the date.
There are also festive food and drink options around the rink, along with fairground rides, so you can easily turn it into a longer evening.
Best for: A playful date, first date or winter evening together.
When: From 6 November 2026.

2. See London under candlelight at Banqueting House
Some dates are about doing something exciting.
Others are about creating an atmosphere.
The Candlelight concerts at Banqueting House are ideal for the second kind.
On 14 November 2026, Banqueting House in Whitehall hosts candlelit performances featuring music inspired by Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Oasis. The concerts take place beneath the magnificent Rubens ceiling, with thousands of candles illuminating the historic surroundings.
The performances are scheduled for the evening, with the official programme listing a Taylor Swift tribute at 7pm and Coldplay Meets Ed Sheeran at 9pm.
That also gives you plenty of opportunities to build the rest of the date around it.
Have dinner in Covent Garden or Soho beforehand, head towards Whitehall for the concert and then take an evening walk towards the Thames afterwards.
It feels special without requiring a huge itinerary.
Best for: A romantic evening or a special occasion.
When: 14 November 2026.

3. Explore a brand-new exhibition together
One of the best things about a November date is that you don't have to worry about the weather.
Head inside.
And November 2026 brings a particularly interesting new exhibition to the V&A.
Constantinople to Istanbul: One City, Two Empires opens on 7 November 2026 at V&A South Kensington. The exhibition explores around 1,600 years of artistic production, covering the Byzantine and Ottoman worlds and bringing together more than 200 objects including textiles, jewellery, manuscripts, ceramics and paintings.
It is a good date option because you don't need to be an art expert.
Walk through the exhibition together, pick out the objects you both find most interesting and then continue the conversation over coffee or dinner afterwards.
There is also a useful timing advantage in November.
Two other V&A exhibitions Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art and Inside Aardman: Wallace & Gromit and Friends are both scheduled to close on 15 November, giving you another reason to plan an early-November cultural date.
Best for: Couples who like art, history, fashion, design or discovering something new together.
4. Skate beneath the Christmas lights at Somerset House
If your date is after 11 November, you have another iconic London ice-skating option.
Skate at Somerset House opens on 11 November 2026 and runs until 10 January 2027. The rink sits inside Somerset House's historic courtyard beneath a 40-foot Christmas tree.
This is probably one of the most recognisable winter date settings in London.
And you don't necessarily have to make it a full evening.
Book a skating session, walk through the Strand and Covent Garden afterwards, and stop somewhere for dinner or a drink.
For 2026, Somerset House is also introducing new experiences including K-pop sessions and Skate Lates, while extended 90-minute sessions are available on selected November dates.
Best for: A classic London winter date.
When: From 11 November 2026.
5. Walk through Christmas at Kew after dark
If you want a date that feels like you've stepped into another world, plan an evening at Kew.
Christmas at Kew begins on 13 November 2026 and runs on selected dates until 3 January 2027. The after-dark trail takes you through Kew Gardens with illuminated installations, music, light tunnels and seasonal food and drinks.
The trail runs from around 4.20pm, making it particularly suitable for a November date because you don't have to wait until very late for darkness.
You can spend the afternoon around Richmond or Kew, have an early dinner and then enter the gardens for the light trail.
The 2026 edition also includes new installations alongside returning favourites, and tickets are timed and capacity is limited.
It is more of an experience than simply looking at Christmas lights.
Best for: A romantic evening, anniversary or couples who love photography.
When: From 13 November 2026.
6. Watch the Lord Mayor's Show together
For something completely different, spend a Saturday watching one of London's oldest traditions.
The Lord Mayor's Show takes place on Saturday 14 November 2026, with the procession setting off from Mansion House at 11am. It travels through the City towards the Royal Courts before returning via the Victoria Embankment and Queen Victoria Street.
It is colourful, noisy and very London.
You will see marching bands, floats, horses, performers and the new Lord Mayor making the traditional journey to Westminster.
The great thing about using it as a date is that you don't need to spend the entire day at the procession.
Watch part of it, then walk around the City together.
You could continue towards St Paul's, cross Millennium Bridge, explore Borough Market and finish with dinner around London Bridge or South Bank.
Just remember that the City has extensive road closures on the day, so public transport and walking are much easier than trying to drive.
Best for: Couples who want something very different from the usual dinner-and-cinema date.
When: Saturday 14 November 2026.
7. See A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic
Christmas doesn't have to wait until December.
The Old Vic's much-loved production of A Christmas Carol returns from 10 November 2026 to 9 January 2027. The production is adapted by Jack Thorne and stars Giles Terera as Ebenezer Scrooge.
This is a particularly good November date because the show itself creates the atmosphere.
You walk into the theatre, settle in with the production's festive staging and then emerge into London's cold evening afterwards.
The Old Vic also has pre-theatre dining available at its Backstage café and bar, which makes planning the evening even easier.
You could have an early dinner nearby, watch the performance and then walk around Waterloo and the South Bank afterwards.
And because preview performances run from 10–23 November, there are plenty of opportunities to catch it relatively early in the season.
Best for: A cosy theatre date with an early taste of Christmas.
When: From 10 November 2026.

8. Walk through the new Christmas lights of Covent Garden
There is something wonderfully simple about a date that consists of walking around London and seeing where the evening takes you.
From 12 November 2026, Covent Garden begins its Christmas season with its annual lights switch-on.
The area will be decorated with more than 300,000 lights, alongside the famous Christmas tree and festive installations.
For a date, you can make this much more than a quick visit.
Start around Covent Garden Piazza, walk through the Market Building and Seven Dials, continue towards Carnaby Street or Soho and stop for dinner or cocktails.
There is also a free Forest of Theatre installation from 12 November, featuring Christmas trees inspired by West End productions including Mamma Mia!, Moulin Rouge!, SIX, Hadestown and Legally Blonde.
If you want a festive date without committing to an expensive ticketed attraction, this is one of the easiest options.
Best for: A relaxed evening date, especially if you enjoy photography.
When: From 12 November 2026.
9. See One Day – The Musical in the West End
If you want your November date to be about romance, this one is almost too obvious.
One Day – The Musical opens at the Garrick Theatre on 17 November 2026.
Based on David Nicholls' bestselling novel, the musical follows Emma and Dexter as their lives, friendship and relationship develop over two decades.
The official theatre information lists performances Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm, with Thursday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm on selected dates. Tickets are currently advertised from £30.
This is an easy date to plan.
Dinner around Soho or Covent Garden.
Theatre.
Then a walk through central London after the show.
And if you're already a fan of the book or Netflix series, the whole evening becomes even more meaningful.
Best for: Romantic couples, fans of the story and anyone looking for a proper West End date night.
When: From 17 November 2026.
10. Make a late-November date at Winter Wonderland
If you want your November date to go completely into Christmas mode, wait until the second half of the month.
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland opens on Thursday 19 November 2026 and runs until 3 January 2027, excluding Christmas Day. Entry must be booked for a specific date and arrival hour.
This is less of a quiet romantic date and more of a full evening out.
You can walk through the Christmas market, go on rides, eat street food, visit the bars and watch the entertainment.
There is also ice skating, making it possible to combine several activities into one visit.
For couples who enjoy busy festive environments, it can be a lot of fun.
For a quieter date, however, go on a weekday rather than expecting a peaceful Saturday evening.
Best for: Couples who love Christmas markets, rides, food and festive atmosphere.
When: From 19 November 2026.

11. Have a classic autumn date: park, pub and London at night
Not every good date needs an event.
In fact, one of the best November dates in London can be incredibly simple.
Pick one of London's parks or neighbourhoods and spend an afternoon walking before settling somewhere warm.
You could explore Hampstead Heath and Hampstead village, walk through Richmond Park and Richmond, wander around Greenwich Park, or spend an afternoon around Primrose Hill and Regent's Park.
The idea is to make the walk the first half of the date.
Then find a cosy pub, café or restaurant.
Have something warm, stay for a while and talk.
When you eventually leave, London will probably be dark which means you get a completely different city for the second half of your date.
You could continue towards the Thames, head into Soho, explore Covent Garden or simply find a quiet route home.
It costs far less than a big ticketed experience, and sometimes those are the dates you remember most.
Best for: First dates, couples on a budget or anyone who prefers conversation over complicated activities.
Which November date should you choose?
The best November date really depends on what kind of evening you want.
For something romantic
Choose the Candlelight concert at Banqueting House, Christmas at Kew or One Day – The Musical.
For something fun
Go ice skating at Glide or Somerset House.
For a classic London evening
Combine dinner with A Christmas Carol, One Day – The Musical or another West End show.
For maximum Christmas atmosphere
Wait until later in November and choose Christmas at Kew, Covent Garden, Somerset House Skate or Winter Wonderland.
For something cultural
Visit Constantinople to Istanbul: One City, Two Empires at the V&A, particularly if you want a date that gives you something to talk about afterwards.
For a cheaper date
Skip the ticketed attractions and plan an autumn walk followed by a cosy pub or café.
Why November is actually a great month for dating in London
There is a strange period in London every November.
Autumn hasn't completely disappeared, but Christmas has already started arriving.
That gives you the best of both.
You can still find golden leaves in the parks and enjoy long walks during the first half of the month. Then, as November progresses, the city becomes increasingly festive.
The important thing is to plan around the dates.
Glide opens on 6 November.
Somerset House Skate starts on 11 November.
Covent Garden's Christmas season begins on 12 November.
Christmas at Kew starts on 13 November.
One Day – The Musical arrives on 17 November.
Winter Wonderland opens on 19 November.
And Hampton Court Palace's ice rink starts on 20 November.
So if you're planning a November date in London, don't think of the month as simply "cold weather and rain".
Think candlelight, theatre, skating, autumn walks, historic buildings, Christmas lights and evenings spent discovering the city together.
Sometimes London is at its most romantic when it is a little cold outside.
